The Denver region has recently experienced tremendous growth in the older adult population and will continue to have significant growth in this population over the next 25 years. Just a few short years ago one out of every eight residents in the Denver region was over the age of 60, but by 2035 more than than 1 in 4 people in the Denver area will be 60 years old or older.In the next five years alone the region will experience a 30% increase in persons over the age of 60 living in the region due to the aging of baby boomers living in the metro area.
The Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) serves as the region's Area Agency on Aging, planning and coordinating a continuum of services available to older adults living in the Denver metro area (excluding Boulder County).
DRCOG assesses the needs of the region's older adults and outlines strategies to meet them through itsArea Plan on Aging .
DRCOG staff is available to answer questions regarding community resources for older adults in the Denver area. DRCOG's resource specialists can provide specific information regarding programs funded through DRCOG, general information regarding Medicaid programs, transportation services, caregiver support programs and social service agency information, as well as offer guidance for placing a loved one in a nursing home or assisted living residence. In addition to providing information about services available to older adults DRCOG also funds community services around the region and advocates for residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities through our ombudsman program.
