Abstract:
Participants in the 2004 ULI/Charles H. Shaw Forum on Urban Community Issues reached consensus on a set of principles for involving the community in neighborhood planning.
These principles include:
- Start with Community Building
- Foster Leadership
- Plan for Implementation
- Take Advantage of Available Tools and Resources
- Be Financially Realistic
- Communicate the Planning Process Effectively
- Make the Neighborhood's "Social" Capital Grow
Case studies on Chicago, San Jose and Austin are also provided.
