The Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), on behalf of the member districts/departments, manages the Firefighter Intraregional Recruitment and Employment (FIRE) program. Candidates take one written exam (offered twice a year) and the results establish an eligibility pool of qualified candidates for our 12 member departments. Applications are reviewed throughout the year as openings occur.

There are three easy steps that you are obligated to follow to apply for the DRCOG Firefighter Exam. Carefully follow the three steps below.

Step 1: Complete the online application. You may access your application at any time to update information. It is your responsibility to keep your information current.

Step 2: Within the online application is a required background questionnaire (only for those taking the June 2010 test; if you took the test in 2009, you completed this in hard copy). When you click on the questionnaire, your 20 minutes begins, and you won't be able to back out and return to it later; don't enter the questionnaire unless you've allowed yourself time to complete it. This 20-minute, timed questionnaire contains essay questions on subjects pertaining to your life experience, such as drug usage, criminal events, how you use judgment and decision making in your life, and how you have prepared for the fire service. Spelling and grammar will be considered when the questionnaire is reviewed.

Once submitted, the questionnaire becomes part of your file. Your application will NOT be complete unless the questionnaire is finished by the application deadline, and you will not be scheduled to test.

Step 3: Pay the $50 testing fee* by the deadline date.

*Online payment preferred; if paying by check, please mail your payment in (made payable to DRCOG) by the deadline date.
