Comment By Michael Fehn
For Regional Transportation Plan
Comment I ask that the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) vote in OPPOSITION to the proposed road construction between state highway 93 north of 64th Avenue to SH 128 in the Regional Transportation Plan. The expansion provides little benefit to local residents and is undesirable for the specific reason residents selected the Golden community.
This proposed Jefferson Parkway section would:
  • Dramatically increase traffic on S.H. 93 and other surrounding roads with little local value added. Sufficient north/south thoroughfares exist to support these scarely populated areas. Population growth of this area is not justified.
  • Worse already serious safety problems for drivers and bicyclists on 93/6th Ave especially in the area of Colorado School of Mines and 19th Street.
  • Create additional costly requirements to be borne by taxpayers for 93 and 6th Ave improvements and taking valuable open space to widen these roads.
  • Seriously degrade the image and economic model of Golden.
  • Be ill-advised given the extreme wind conditions that exist in the area.
