||Regional Transportation Plan, Metro Vision
||Dear DRCOG Board of Directors,
Thank you for your time and consideration allowing public comment on the Proposed Jefferson Parkway last night.
I represent the Evergreen Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors in a motion in favor of the Parkway based on the need to improve connectivity and mobility throughout the Denver region.
As of 9:00 p.m. when I had to leave last night's hearing, I believe I offer a slightly different persective than most mentioned.
Evergreen, although not directly impacted by the Parkway in proximity, has a population of 40,000 residents - 86 percent of whom commute to and from work each day. The commutes are broad and extend to throughout the metropolitan including other outlying areas of Denver, such as Boulder.
We are no different from other cities who have outgrown their transportation infrastructure. We understand that funding of this maganitude is extremely costly, but also believe our transportation system is key to the viability of the Denver metropolitan region.
As an organization that represents a community of two-way commuters - those who commute outside of our area to work and those who rely on employment from individuals who live outside of the mountain foothills area; the completion of the beltway is a solid plan for increasing connectivity to and from the northwest corridor. The goal is to improve the flow of traffic by making it more efficient to get from point 'A' to point 'B', as well as to improve safety by moving the high volume/speed of traffic outside the neighborhoods. (On a personal note, it takes me longer to commute to my physician in Arvada, than to get to downtown Denver from Evergreen).
We respect DRCOG's position for improving our transportation needs for the northwest quadrant of the Denver metropolitan region and for recognizing the importance transportaion plays in the livelihoods of all of us who live, work and play in this County and State.
We would appreciate your vote of 'yes' for the proposed completion of the Jefferson Parkway.
President, Evergreen Area Chamber of Commerce
