Climate Pollution Reduction planning
Through the Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program, the Denver Regional Council of Governments received a planning grant to develop climate action plans in coordination with stakeholders through the region. The grant funds were designated for the completion of a Priority Climate Action Plan and a Comprehensive Climate Action Plan. The organization will also complete a status report in late 2027 at the end of the four-year grant period.
Both plans address emission reductions in the building, transportation and waste sectors. Building-related measures are supported through Power Ahead Colorado, a grant-funded program helping residential and commercial building owners find right-sized heat pumps, expert guidance, vetted installers an rebate support. As the metropolitan planning organization for the Denver region, DRCOG also advances transportation measures identified in the plans.
To support the waste-sector goals outlined in the plans, DRCOG will convene waste-sector stakeholders and member jurisdictions in fall 2026 to discuss opportunities for regional collaboration. For additional information on the waste sector, review pages 69-93 of the comprehensive plan.
