Applications now open for 2025 Civic Academy
Sessions to be held Tuesdays beginning September 30

Denver, Colorado — Applications are now open for the fall session of Civic Academy, which begins Tuesday, September 30. This free, seven-week course of study is hosted by the Denver Regional Council of Governments and invites Front Range residents to learn more about regional issues, such as transportation, economic vitality, affordable housing, planning and development. Sessions range from interactive workshops to field trips.
“As the new public engagement planner for DRCOG, I’m looking forward to this year’s Civic Academy,” said Angie Shelbourn, who was hired in March. “I’ve enjoyed planning the sessions, and I’m excited that we’re once again offering Spanish interpretation for attendees. This will be a great opportunity for residents to learn more about their communities and further inspire them to get involved.”
At the end of Civic Academy, students create an action plan of their continuing public engagement. Alumni have gone on to hold responsible positions in public agencies and nonprofit organizations, directly shaping Colorado’s future through their work. Many have taken on leadership roles as elected officials, while others have used the knowledge and experience they gained to drive improvements in their neighborhoods, advocate for local needs, and strengthen community ties through active participation.
Applications close Wednesday, September 3, and you can apply online at drcog.org/CAapplication. Civic Academy (formerly Citizens’ Academy) began in 2007 as a program of nonprofit corporation, Transit Alliance. Since 2018, DRCOG has organized and hosted Civic Academy.
