Denver, Colorado — Denver Regional Council of Governments staff seek feedback on recommendations to reduce serious traffic crashes along Sheridan Boulevard, developed as part of the Sheridan Corridor Safety Study. The study is a partnership between DRCOG, the Colorado Department of Transportation, the City and County of Denver, the cities of Lakewood, Edgewater, Wheat Ridge, and the Town of Mountain View to identify improvements to reduce serious and fatal crashes along the corridor between Interstate 76 and U.S. Route 285.

Sheridan Boulevard is currently on the Regional High Injury Network, the 9% of roads in the Denver region where the majority of serious and fatal traffic crashes occur. As part of the study, the project team analyzed traffic crash data on Sheridan between 2018 and 2022, identifying 4,000 crashes resulting in 228 serious injuries and 18 fatalities.

DRCOG staff invites the public to review and provide feedback on the draft recommendations generated through the study, which include both corridor-wide improvements and infrastructure improvements at the most dangerous intersections. The draft recommendations will be on the project website through early October.  The project team will also be at Lakewood’s Cider Days Festival on October 4 and 5 to share the recommendations and gather feedback.

“We’re eager to get the public’s feedback on our draft recommendations,” says Nora Kern, DRCOG program manager. “Sheridan is one of the most complex and neglected corridors in our region, as well as one of the most dangerous. Addressing the traffic safety issues on this street is urgent and won’t be easy, but we hope to identify recommendations that will make a meaningful impact towards achieving our vision of zero serious and fatal traffic crashes. We appreciate the partnership of all the local agencies and CDOT in identifying key improvements to some of the most dangerous locations along this street.”
