Jacob Riger to lead Transportation Planning and Operations division at Denver Regional Council of Governments

After a national search, the Denver Regional Council of Governments is pleased to announce that Jacob Riger has been selected to be the new director of the Transportation Planning and Operations division, effective August 11, 2025.

Riger has been with DRCOG since 2012, serving in a number of capacities, most recently as manager of multimodal transportation planning. In that role, he led teams that develop and maintain DRCOG’s 2050 Regional Transportation Plan, corridor and community plans and safety, transit and freight planning. He directly led DRCOG’s Bus Rapid Transit and managed several of the agency’s committees and work groups.

Before DRCOG, Riger worked for consulting firms specializing in multimodal and transit planning for metropolitan planning organizations, transit agencies and local governments across the country, including Florida, Colorado, Arizona and Hawaii.With almost 30 years of expertise in transportation planning in the public and private sectors, he now joins the senior management team at DRCOG, which celebrates its 70th year as the region’s metropolitan planning organization. DRCOG Executive Director Douglas W. Rex said Riger's "strong background and collaborative spirit will serve him well in this new role."

Riger appreciates the critical role mobility plays in people’s daily lives. He “is passionate about continuing DRCOG’s critically important work in service of our great region, member governments, and all of our stakeholders."

In addition to working at DRCOG, Riger enjoys traveling, reading, and family time with his wife and two stepchildren.
